Studies have proven that a purring cat in a human's lap will calm the human down and reduce his or her blood pressure. I was only able to watch the last State/Carolina bloodbath because I was reclining on the couch with Eudora on my chest.
Last night, I got myself worked up into a lather of worry over what to write to get into the running for the News and Observer columnist position. Wrote the blog entry and poured myself an adult beverage, which I set beside my monitor. Eudora jumped dramatically onto the desk, upsetting the beverage, which spilled over onto the wireless box, knocking out our Internet service.
I had no choice but to go and watch television until time for bed. That was good, as I was forced to stop stressing over the entry. Good kitty!
But this morning, as I was brewing my coffee, I couldn't check my e-mail (and Web nanny at work won't let me check my gmail account), or the local weather, or Perez Hilton. And I felt lost and helpless. Somebody might have forwarded me the funniest thing ever and I wouldn't know. Was I supposed to wear a light, medium or heavy coat? Did any celebrities get into trouble? Has the world ended and I didn't get the memo? I was a total, disoriented wreck all day.
Steve let the box dry out all day and reset it, and everything is right in the world.

They are such cute cats! I'm glad your computer is fixed. My work blocks everything! They even block the site to check the Powerball numbers. I think that way, if one of their employees wins, he won't be able to find out about it and, therefore, won't immediately march down to HR and quit. I will still be totally interested to find out what you decide to submit. (no pressure :)
Cara- You are so sweet to me! Of course I waited until Thursday night, following the worst day ever, and hacked out four options (condensed versions of some of the blog entries). I posted them temporarily asking for feedback. Each got two votes. I went with the one my mentor voted for, a very shortened version of "Ramble On," which really didn't say anything. Hope you're having a peach of a week!
I think it was Dave Barry who wrote, "People go into HR as a career because they enjoy making other people fill out forms and firing them."
